The Power of Group Mentoring in Navigating Negotiations
Managing Dynamics in a Group Setting
Group mentoring introduces a unique challenge: balancing different perspectives while ensuring each individual gains valuable insights.
Managing Dynamics
Negotiating for yourself can feel uncomfortable, especially in a professional setting. Many people struggle to advocate for their worth, unsure of when and how to start the conversation. In this mentoring session, the goal was to not only share negotiation strategies but also to create a space where professionals could learn from each other’s real experiences.
The Challenge
In a mentoring session with six professionals, the focus was negotiation—how and when to ask for a promotion or salary increase. The mentees looked to me for guidance, yet the true opportunity lay in learning from each other’s experiences.
The Breakthrough
Rather than providing a one-size-fits-all answer, I encouraged open discussion. By asking probing questions and prompting individuals to share personal experiences—whether negotiations had been easy or difficult—we built a rich, well-rounded perspective.
Each participant left with practical strategies, not just from me, but from the collective wisdom of the group. This dynamic approach reinforced that negotiation isn’t just about tactics—it’s about confidence, perspective, and knowing your worth.
